Paul G.
Heckler Jr.
December 1, 1944 – February 8, 2022
Paul Heckler passed peacefully in his sleep to join his wife Shirley on February 8, 2022. Born in Macomb, Mississippi on December 1, 1944 to the late Paul George and Sara Leigh (Godbel) Heckler. He married Shirley Rousseau in September of 1966. After 50 beautiful years of marriage, Shirley preceded him in death on January 16, 2017 and was waiting at Heaven's gate for his arrival; they are together again at last. After serving in the US Army, Paul worked at Ford Motor Company, retiring after 33 years. He was a Ford man through and through and loved his trucks and cars, often allowing only Fords to park in his driveway. He earned his Bachelors in Business from Baker College. Paul's smile, happy eyes, and laughter were contagious to all around him. He loved a good joke and he loved spending time with family and friends, always making everyone feel welcome and appreciated. He loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing and camping and never missed opening day. He enjoyed his wife's cooking and eating at the Ram's Horn in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. His life was full of joy, playing baseball games in his backyard, working in his garage, or helping on a home renovation project. Always looking dapper with his curly hair gelled down, he had a fondness for his pets and furry friends and watching TV from his newest La-Z-Boy. When his wife became sick, he promised God he would join the church if He gave her 10 more years - and he did, becoming a part of Saint Albert the Great Parish and joining the Knights of Columbus. Together they were both very active in the organization and Paul eventually became a 4th Degree. God granted the two of them more than 10 additional years together. Paul was also a life-long member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post #215. Paul left behind those he loved deeply; sons Tim Heckler and Troy Heckler and his wife, Ann; Grandson Hunter Heckler; Sisters Beverly and Kathy; In-laws Martha Sopfe, Anna and Dan Warner, Marty and Jean Miller, Claire and Larry Blaty, Edward Rousseau and Randy and Kim Rousseau; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; many other loving family members and friends; and his furry friend Colby. Services will be held Friday, May 13 at 10 am at Saint Maria Goretti in Dearborn Heights, followed by a 1 pm interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. Donations can be made in memory of Paul to Angela Hospice, 14100 Newburgh Road, Livonia, MI 48145. Memorial contributions may be made to Angela Hospice, https://angelahospice.org/donations-landing/
