Phyllis I. (Hansen) Johnson

(September 2, 1925 – January 8, 2022)

Phyllis passed away on January 8, 2022 at the age of 96.  She was born and raised in northern Wisconsin, moving with her family to Detroit in 1943 right after high school graduation.  In 1944, she moved to Chicago to work, meeting her future husband on the train to visit family in Detroit in 1945.  Ken and Phyllis married in 1947.  Her devoted husband passed in 2010.

Phyllis is the beloved mother of Don, Bill (Cassandra), and Dee (Michael).  Loving grandmother to Adam, Matthew, Derek, Amy, Carly, Ryan, and Katie.  Proud great-grandmother to Jacob, Jeremiah, Julian, Maya, Elliot, Emily, Matthias, Ronan, and Lilly.

Phyllis was a woman of strong faith who loved people.  She was famous for her sour cream coffee cake and blueberry-rhubarb jam.  A proud businesswoman who worked in the field of personalized direct mail until age 70, in the later years as the owner.  She was also a tireless volunteer at Henry Ford Hospital Fairlane for 25 years, first in the gift shop and later at the information desk.  She was a volunteer usher at the Dearborn Performing Arts Center, where she ushered the last time at age 90 on the day she was moving to Lansing to enter assisted living.

She was a member of the Dearborn Chapter of The American Business Women's Association for many years, serving as an officer.  She was a member of the local Toastmistress Club, also serving as an officer.  She was a long-time member first of Ward Memorial Presbyterian Church in Detroit, later of Warrendale Community Church in Dearborn.

Phyllis truly cared for others and was a wonderful role model to her children and grandchildren.  She will be terribly missed.
