Phyllis L.
Solberg
February 21, 1928 – January 7, 2022
Phyllis Solberg passed away January 7, 2022 age 93. Beloved wife of the late Lincoln E. Solberg. Loving mother of Sydney Lentz, Byrne Solberg and the late Kirstin Gell. Dear grandmother of Brandon, Sajen and Chandley Solberg and Teren and Cary Lentz.
Phyllis was born on February 21, 1928 on the Cherokee Indian Agency in North Carolina and was raised with her siblings, Bill, Jerry, Steve and Betty in South Dakota on the Lower Brule Reservation. After she grew up and finished high school, Phyllis moved to Pierre, South Dakota where she met the love of her life, Lincoln. She attended University of South Dakota and Lincoln joined the Navy. The two were married in 1949 and had their first child soon after.
Due to Lincoln's Naval career, the family would move from place to place until about a year after they had their second child, Byrne. During this time, Phyllis would work secretarial jobs until she had her third child, Kirstin. At this point she decided she wanted to be a stay home mom and raise her kids. As they got a bit older and self-sufficient, she decided to go back to school. She graduated with a Master's in Social Work from Wayne State University.
From here she would go on to work in Vista Marie, a home for delinquent girls. Phyllis's natural kindness and drive to help others made this the perfect fit for her. Though all the years spent working here, she helped countless young ladies grow into strong women. The example set by Phyllis encouraged the girls to move in a positive direction and gave them confidence to do so.
Managing Lincoln's medical practice is where she ended her working years. She may have retired, but she wasn't finished working. There were so many organizations that she was active in. Always volunteering to benefit others. Phyllis devoted her life to solving everyone's problems. This attribute earned her so many friends, all of which will miss her dearly.
