Yenkel
August 26, 1935 – January 11, 2024
Raymond Lynwood Yenkel was born August 26, 1935 to Raymond Alonzo Yenkel and Celia Elizabeth Louise Dapprich Yenkel in Dearborn, Michigan. He passed away on January 11, 2024 surrounded by family.
Ray attended Henry Ford Community College and Eastern Michigan University earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also attended United Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree. He served as a teacher, and school administrator for Taylor School District. He also served as a minister for Fourth Street Evangelical Church in Wyandotte before pastoring the United Methodist Church in Detroit in 1968.
Ray married Lois Ann Prehn Yenkel in 1955. They had three children; Raymond Earl, Marc Lynwood, and Julie Ann (Yenkel) Mascot. The family enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, water and snow skiing, attending Detroit Tigers games and spending time Up North at the family cottage.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Celia Yenkel, his sisters Glenna Yenkel Gehringer and Fern Yenkel Proctor. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lois Ann Prehn Yenkel. He is survived by his children Raymond E. Yenkel, Marc L. Yenkel (Cindy), Julie Ann Mascot (Don), grandchildren Jeff Yenkel (Sarah), Jennifer Randle (Bryan), Hilary Klein (Justin), and Christa Shunkwiler (David); great grandchildren Owen Strieff, Brayden Randle, Brenna Randle, Aubrie Stoutenburg, Carter Klein, Emerson Yenkel, Alaina Klein, Charlie Shunkwiler, and Chloe Yenkel.
Visitation will be held at the Howe Peterson Funeral Home, Dearborn Chapel, on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Dementia Society of America.
