Robert George
Dubensky
June 4, 1935 – December 29, 2019
Dr. Robert George Dubensky, age 84, of Dearborn passed away surrounded by family on Sunday Dec 29 th , 2019. He was born June 4, 1935 in Adrian (Delancey), Pennsylvania to George and Anna (Zeedick) Dubensky. Adrian was a small, company-owned, coal mining town just outside Punxsutawney. He fondly remembered those years growing up in the small, close knit community which included his large extended family. (64 first cousins!)When the mine closed in 1941 his family moved to Lakewood, Ohio. Bob enjoyed all the benefits of living in a larger city.
Bob always worked hard and had jobs from a young age; from paper boy to stock boy at Higbee's to university professor and mechanical engineer. His natural curiosity fueled his studies. He attended Fenn College (Cleveland State) as a co-op student graduating with a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1957. He received a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960 from the University of Kansas and a PhD from the University of Iowa in 1968. His love of learning new things and quest for new knowledge would be a lifelong passion.
While teaching at the University of Akron he went on a blind date that would change his life. He married Mary Margaret Streich (nee Doherty) in 1973 and had an instant family, adopting Tom & Jim. Robert and Mary would have two daughters, Sarah and Mary Beth to complete their family.
Following employment opportunities, he moved to Michigan, Oklahoma and settled back in Michigan permanently working as an Engineer for many different companies including Massey Ferguson, Kelsey Hayes and retired from Chrysler in 2001. With his new found free time, he enjoyed icon painting, genealogy research, and working as a historical presenter at Greenfield Village.
He is survived by his children Thomas (Marie), James, Sarah (Oscar) and Mary Beth; grandchildren Matthew (Addie), Jasmine, Emma and Finn, his brother Phillip (Dorothy) and former spouse, Mary.
He will be remembered for his passionate storytelling, quest for learning, enjoyment of teaching and sharing of historical facts, and his love for family.
