Robert Joseph Mitchell Born October 26, 1921 in Detroit,Wayne Co., Michigan, and died April 22, 2012 in Port Huron, St. Clair Co.,Michigan, at 90 years of age. He was the son of Joe (Maczuilskas) Mitchell and Madeline (Walutkiute) Mitchell. He married Mildred Shirley Smith on October 11, 1941 in Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Detroit, Michigan. Mildred preceded Robert in death on January 21, 1971. Robert and Mildred were the parents of four children, Robert (Shirley) Mitchell II, Dennis (Terri) Mitchell, Gerald Mitchell, and Maryann Mitchell. Robert is also survived by ten grandchildren, Matthew Mitchell, Patrick (Erica) Mitchell, Nathan (Karen) Mitchell, and Jeremy (Bridget) Mitchell, Jeffrey (Leah) Mitchell, Kym (Jim) Hobley, Talia Mitchell, Shawn (Michael) Marentette, Ryan Petty, and Megan Petty; and eight great grandchildren, Mira, and Luna Mitchell, Eva Hobley, Wyatt and Colton and Garrett Marentette, Mclane and Katelin Wilsey. During his high school years he was well known for his athletic ability. He was the Captain of the Catholic Central Football team. Robert served in the Navy during WWII, April 1944 to January 1946. He worked for Detroit Edison Co. After retiring he lived at Houghton Lake for many years. He was a good Catholic man. Robert was proud of his Lithuanian heritage, all of his grand- parents were emigrants from Lithuania. He was loved and will be missed by his family. Funeral Mass Friday 10:30 am from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22430 Michigan Ave.; Dearborn. Prayers 10:00 am from the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. Visitation Thursday 2-8 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
