Obituary

Robert H. Sale passed away at home in Dearborn, MI early Saturday, February 7, following a recent short hospitalization. Bob was born in Hamilton Ontario on July 4, 1918, but spent most of his life in Michigan. He married Norma Jurisch in June, 1943. They had been married for 48 years at the time of her death in October, 1991. He was the proud and beloved father of Judith (Tom Khalil) and Richard (Suellen); grandfather of Derek (Amy Wolfe), Elizabeth Khalil, and Jennifer (Jeff) Hayes; and great grandfather of Charlie and Henry Sale and Hunter Hayes. Bob worked for more than 40 years on the freight side of the railroad industry, both outdoors supervising crews and indoors in various billing-related capacities. He was a member of Fort Street Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, serving as an Elder, Sunday School Superintendent, Finance Committee member and Usher. He was one of the organizers of the Church's Open Door program in 1967 that has provided hot meals, clothing and other services to many hundreds of indigents every week since then. He was a 33 Mason, and Active Emeritus of the Supreme Council of the Northwest Masonic Jurisdiction of Scottish Rite. He had served as the Deputy for the State of Michigan, as well as in various capacities to other Masonic bodies. At the time of his death he was a member of the Olive Branch Lodge in Dearborn, MI. Visitation will be at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 10, from 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Wednesday, February 11, from Noon to 9:00 pm, with a Masonic Memorial service on Wednesday at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 12, at Fort Street Presbyterian Church, Fort Street and Third Avenue. He will lie in state beginning at 11:30 am, with the service beginning at 12:30 pm. Interment will be at Woodmere Cemetery in Detroit.
