Rocco Romeo passed away on Sunday, September 6 at the age of 92. Rocco's beloved wife, Marlene preceded him in death just one day before, on September 5. Rocco is survived by his son Robert Romeo (Peg), daughter Marianne Romeo (Tom) and daughter Christine Huckabone. Rocco is also survived by his grandsons, Andrew (Sara), Bobby Huckabone, Ian Huckabone and his step grandsons, Jason Watson (Emma) and Adam Watson and his sister, Mary Mitchell. Rocco was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Rose Romeo, sisters Catherine Romeo and Pauline Muck, brothers Paul Romeo and Joe Romeo and son in law, Edward Huckabone.
Rocco was born in Belmont New York in 1928. The family lived on their farm in Up State New York until 1941, when Rocco's father moved the family to Michigan for a job in the auto industry. Rocco was a 1946 graduate of Fordson High School. He went on to work as a mechanic in a garage in Dearborn where he met the love of his life, Marlene Rzepecki. The two were married in June of 1953. During their 67 years of marriage Marlene and Rocco went on to have three children, three grandsons and two step grandsons.
Rocco worked at Ford Motor Company as an engineer for 33 years. It was a job he loved and for a company that he loved.
Rocco had many hobbies. He was an accomplished clock maker and collector. Rocco, along with his long time friend Tom Eurich created a commemorative bicentennial clock that was sold throughout the country in 1977. Rocco was also an avid antique toy collector and an avid antique car collector. He had many antique cars over the years which he entered in many car shows. In 1996 his 1933 Lincoln KB LeBaron Convertible Coupe won the top prize at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance Car show.
There will be a viewing on Wednesday, September 9th at Howe Peterson Funeral Home in Dearborn from 5:00pm - 8:00pm. Rocco will lay in state at Divine Child Church in Dearborn on Thursday, September 10th at 9:30am, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00am and a private family burial at St. Hedwig's Cemetery in Dearborn Heights.
