Roger Pitman Daniel was born November 22, 1933 to Roger LeBaron and Naomie Beulah Daniel. He was called home on February 15, 2022 at 88 years of age. He is survived by his dearly beloved wife Mary of 60 years, and his two beloved children, Cindy Kalandek and Timothy (Tabitha) Daniel, along with his also-beloved grandchildren, Kelsey (Luke) Korte and CJ Kalandek, and Hannah, Abigail and Sarah Daniel.

Roger graduated from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor with a BSME in 1956, and almost immediately was hired by Ford Motor Company in the Dearborn Engineering complex, in Ford's newly formed Crash Injuries and Human Dynamics Department. Roger soon became a research engineer and eventually Ford's Technical Specialist in occupant protection. One of his more unusual projects was developing human tolerance data using cadaver and animal surrogates. Another was working with Industry, Government and Academia experts from around the world in cooperatively developing a family of highly advanced crash test dummies, still in common use.

Roger was highly regarded among his peers within Ford, within the Industry, academia and within the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as one who could be trusted in his dealings with them. Roger used to say that he worked during the day to save peoples' lives and during the evening to save peoples' souls. He was awarded the prestigious "Fellow" position by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), given only to the top half-to-one percent of engineers as voted by their peers, among many other awards. He eventually chaired eight SAE committees or subcommittees, ISO (International Standards Organization) committees/subcommittees and other intra-industry committees. He also had over 20 patents. He retired from Ford in 1996 after 40.5 years of service. But he stated that, while it is nice to have one's work recognized, all such awards were nothing compared to the Lord's "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Mt.25:21). That's the award he wanted!

In 1960 Roger met his dear wife-to-be, Mary while camping on the shores of Lake Erie in Canada. Some friends at the campsite told him they were going to bring out "another Christian nut" the next week for him to meet, and it was love at first sight. Roger and Mary were married in 1961 and lived in the family home built by his grandfather in 1892.

Roger was active in a small local assembly of Christians and took on a Sunday School class of 5 year olds at the age of 14. Roger soon began working with teen-through-college-age young people, especially after coming into fellowship with a larger assembly in the Detroit area in 1964, and began writing outlines, which became eventually his first and most popular book, Outlines for Christian Youth, now in its third edition (bbusa.org). Even with a speech difficulty, Roger preached in many assemblies throughout North America as he traveled for Ford or during vacation times, and after retirement. Roger and Mary attended hundreds of Bible conferences together during his lifetime. For over 54 years Roger and Mary have fellowshipped at Dearborn Heights Christian Assembly on Ann Arbor Trail in Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

In early 1976 Roger accepted the invitation to join the Council of Believers Bookshelf and soon was offered the job as Secretary. He was the longest-serving officer of Believers Bookshelf USA—over 42 years. All work was voluntary, and all book profits went back into the Bookshelf. Roger has authored or co-authored about 25 books, with many in their second or even third editions. He for many years before his home-call was Believers Bookshelf USA's main editor and has helped fulfill his mission by modernizing many old-time books.

His knowledge, wit and presence will be sorely missed by his family and many friends and colleagues.

Visitation will be at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17th from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. and Friday, February 18th from 1:00 - 8:00 P.M. and the Funeral Service on Saturday, February 19th at 11:00 A.M. - Instate at 10:00 A.M.
