Obituary

Ronald Joel Harworth, 76 year old former Marine who served in Vietnam and retired Dearborn Police Officer, passed peacefully on April 5th after a tough 6 year battle with Multiple Myeloma & Scleroderma.  Ron not only served his country and community, but lived his life with a huge servants heart.  His family, friends and acquaintances were often overwhelmed by his generosity and lending hand. Ron's charismatic nature drew others to his large and in charge personality. Coaching little league teams, chaperoning youth, helping friends with construction jobs, cooking for others, entertaining his Grandson, RJ, and even giving out golf tips are a few examples of his giving heart.

Ron's wife of over 50 years, met him at the Rooster Tail in Detroit in 1967.  where he swept her off her feet and the rest was history. Their relationship has been a model for their kids and others of what true commitment, hard work, communication, and unconditional love looks like.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Jayne, children Sheri (James) Hicks, grandson RJ, Steve (Patty) Harworth, grandchildren Chaz and Chelsea, and Tony (Julie) Malone, grandchildren Tucker and Clementine.  Also Brother-in-law Jerry (Bonnie) Neuman and siblings Sandra (Brad) Crawford, Sharon Wade, and Larry (Michele) Harworth.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who truly loved Ron.

Ron lived his life to the fullest each and every day.  After retiring from the Dearborn PD he held a multitude of "jobs" including driving a bus, flipping a house, deli man at Ara's Party Store, selling real estate and serving as the A-Ga-Ming golf course cook, handyman, starter as well as a founding member of the A-Ga-Ming Ryder Cup.

"Ronnie", the name given to him by his long time friend and police partner Frank Maurier, was extremely talented in remodeling, furniture making, stained glass and fixing just about anything.  Cooking, fishing, entertaining, watching sports and spending time with family and friends were a few of his pastimes, however golf was at the top of his list.

Mr. Harworth's wishes were to be cremated along with a party for family and friends.  Ron's Celebration of Life will be held at Park Place Hall in Dearborn on Saturday, April 21st from 12-4 pm with a special tribute to Ron at 1:30.  Join the family to share funny, favorite stories and raise a glass to a man loved by many.  Please come in casual attire and bring your best Ron memories.  Please RSVP on our Facebook event or to Sheri Hicks at sheri.hic1234@gmail.com or text/call her at 520-247-0861.
