Rosemary K. Thompson

Beloved wife of James (deceased). Dear mother of James Thompson, Susan Ferrier (Mark - deceased), Carol Deckert (Michael) and John Thompson (Lisa). Grandmother (Nana) of Vincent, Jake, Michelle, Rachel, Christina, Samantha, James “J.P.”, Lauren, Alexandra and Kristin. Great Grandmother (Nana Grande) of Beckett, Jessie, Juliet, August, Reese and Lainey.

Youngest sister of the late John Oliver, Mary Fucile, Sam Oliverio, Russell Oliverio, Rose Dorosh, Pat Oliverio, Peter Ferrantino, Nancy Allevato and Michael Ferrantino.

Born Maria Rosa Ferrantino in Detroit, MI on September 4, 1930, to Italian immigrants Michael and Barabara Ferrantino and grew up in Dearborn’s Southend. A graduate of Fordson High School where she met her husband, James (Jim) Thompson. They were married on September 9, 1950, and remained together until Jim’s passing in 1984.

After high school, Rosemary began a career in journalism working as a reporter and society editor before taking time off to raise a family. In the early 1970’s Rosemary began a career as an office administrator and manager for Children’s Eyecare, a position she proudly held until the age of 81.

She was an avid cook and baker, often making elaborate wedding cakes for people in her younger days. She shared the love of golf and crossword puzzles with her husband, and was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, ensuring that family traditions will be maintained in current and future generations.

She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Martha and St. Kateri Catholic Churches. She often spoke of her humble beginnings and the impact of the Dearborn Goodfellows, resulting in a family tradition of volunteering. Most importantly, she placed her love of family above all else, cherishing any time she could spend with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and countless relatives.

Rosemary’s accomplishments and experiences were inspirational and infectious. Her life will be celebrated, and she will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to Angela Hospice or the Dearborn Goodfellows.

Visitation Sunday, June 28th from 2:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Dearborn Location of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 22546 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn 48124. Funeral Mass, Monday, June 29th 11:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22430 Michigan Avenue, Dearborn 48124.  Rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Sunday. Interment at St. Hedwig Cemetery.
