Roy Monberg passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on September 20, 2022 with his loving daughter Amanda by his side.

Roy was born on September 6, 1939, in Dearborn, Michigan. He attended Fordson High School. After two stints in the Army, he began his career in 1963 with the United States Postal Service, first as a letter carrier and later as a Supervisor.

For over 50 years, great memories were made while enjoying beautiful Glen Lake in the Sleeping Bear Dunes Lakeshore (fishing, grilling, and looking for satellites in dark skies). The trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to Art's Tavern for whitefish and an adult beverage. These times instilled the importance of spending quality time with the ones you love.

Roy retired to "his best life" in 2000, when he began his annual ritual of spending half of the year in his beloved Florida, including many years at Dearborn Towers in Clearwater, then later in Oldsmar, Bradenton, and Dunedin. He loved eating grouper and simply enjoying the sunshine. The only thing that could make him happier was when Amanda and the family would come to visit.

With his love of German and Polish music, the Dakota Inn Oktoberfest celebration was a favorite tradition. Roy loved polka music and was an avid member of the Slovene American Club.

Roy played baseball in school and in the service and played golf throughout his life.  He loved hockey (Red Wings!) and college football (especially the bands); for many years he had season tickets to both Michigan State and the University of Michigan football, and he loved to volunteer at mid-winter bowl games in Florida.

Roy wasn't a man of many words but had a way about him that could make you laugh and feel loved. This earned him many friends over the years who will never forget him. Roy will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing him.

Beloved father to Amanda (Brian) Wahl of Pleasant Ridge; also father to David (Joanne) Walker of Naples, Florida, and Kim Langbecker of Santa Fe, New Mexico, both of whom he met later in life; loving grandfather to Charlotte Wahl; also grandfather to Brad (Randy) Walker and Mark (Rebecca) Walker; uncle to Kaye Dial, David (Janice) Simpson, Thomas "Sam" (Brenda) Simpson, Bill (Eva) Simpson, and Patricia (Douglas) Gokee, and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Doris (Bill) Simpson, Robert Monberg, and Norma Bavier.

A celebration of Roy's life will be held at a later date.
