Obituary

Dearborn, MI 2/7/2018, age 86 loving wife of the late Rev. Dr. Alvin Kauffman. Loving mother of Karen (Andy) Emler of Lincoln Park, MI and Eric (Julie) Kauffman of Noblesville, IN.  She was born in Jonesville, SC to the late Dean and Colleen Fowler Scott, the second of three children in 1931.

Sara graduated from Jonesville H.S., received a B.S. In Biology from Winthrop College and a M.S. in Biology and Chemistry.  After completing her studies she worked in the sciences in a variety of settings including The Rockefeller Institute of N.Y., Handy and Harmon Precious Metals and Monsanto. She also enjoyed sharing her knowledge via teaching in the Taylor Public Schools.

She was an avid reader and gardener, accomplished seamstress, and enjoyed cooking and baking for others.

In addition to her children she is survived by her grandchildren Matthew Scott Kauffman (Gardnerville, NV), Stephanie Kauffman (Josh) Herrington (Fishers, IN) and Beth Ann Kauffman (Tomball, TX).   Step grandchildren Joanna Emler (Lincoln Park, MI) and Andy Emler (Phoenix, AZ).

She was predeceased by son Hugh Alan Kauffman, her brother Lewis Scott (Moore, SC) and her sister Marion Scott Coker King (Lyman, SC).

Sara left an unforgettable impression on all whom she met.  In addition to the good work done at each of the four churches she served alongside her husband, she was an active resident of Henry Ford Village where she made many wonderful friends, a long term member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in Taylor, MI and most recently enjoyed contributing at World Medical Relief in Southfield, MI.

A Memorial Service is planned for Saturday, Feb. 10th at 11:00am at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 24158 Goddard Rd, Taylor, MI 48180.
