Selma was predeceased by four of her children: Rawleigh Lee Johnson of Yonkers, NY, Leo Johnson of Detroit, MI, Leo Connley Johnson of River Rouge, MI and Tina Marie Newton of Lincoln Park, MI.

She grew up the child of farmers and continued that tradition, working with her husband, Joseph, turning half the backyard into a farm. When those vegetables were ripe you would find her at the stove canning to preserve them for future meals or as gifts to friends, family, and neighbors.
A proud mother, she loved getting the family together for big holiday gatherings. You would find her hard at work all day between two stoves and the kitchen table making fantastic dishes from scratch.
When she wasn't cooking or cleaning, you would find her sitting on the porch, drink in hand, enjoying her beautiful flowers or visiting with friends.
Family will have a private family farewell at the Taylor Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 9800 S. Telegraph Rd. followed by a private burial service at OakRidge Cemetery in Brownstown Charter Township.
