Sharon
Pfeifer
May 18, 1928 – August 15, 2016
Sharon (Kistler) Pfeifer, of Dearborn, died on August 15, 2016, at age 88. She was born in Detroit and was raised in Traverse City by her parents, Claude and Florence Kistler.
As a youngster, Sharon was precocious and intellectually curious, and she excelled in both academics and music, particularly piano. At age 12, she played and recorded "Moonlight Sonata" on a radio broadcast.
Sharon was a James B. Angell Scholar at the University of Michigan, where she studied education and foreign languages, with a goal to work as an interpreter for the United Nations. She was conferred a teaching degree in 1950 and taught elementary school upon graduation. She enjoyed her years at U of M, built lifelong friendships while residing at the Martha Cook House, and met her future husband, Donald Pfeifer. They married in 1949 and settled in Dearborn, where they raised their five children.
She eventually stopped teaching to raise her family and was active in the community, including the First United Methodist Church of Dearborn, where she taught Sunday school and played piano. She also had many hobbies, including sewing, knitting, quilting, and cooking. A voracious reader, she continued to read and do crossword puzzles until her death.
Sharon is survived by her children, James, Lorrie Keilman, Elise Hodges (Jeff Kuentzel), Bradley (Jane), and Andrea Hackett, as well as 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
There will be no viewing or service. The family suggests donations to Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter.
