Sheila died on February 1, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 22, 1933, in Englehart, Ontario, and grew up one of seven children.
She obtained her nursing degree (RN) from The Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario, and came to Ann Arbor, MI in 1961, where she joined the University of Michigan Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Sheila worked primarily on the labor and delivery unit at the Women's Hospital, where she served as head nurse for many years.
Sheila married Dr. Edwin Peterson in October of 1978 and joined his medical practice in 1980. She went on to obtain an additional certification in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Sheila was a dedicated and compassionate nurse and worked alongside her husband until her retirement in 1991.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Dr. Edwin Peterson; children Drew McCaughey, Michelle (Kevin) Outman, Brad (Michelle) McCaughey, Peter (Jessica) Peterson, and John Peterson. Sheila was a remarkable person - determined, strong, and relentlessly positive. She had a great love of the outdoors, and some of her favorite memories were the times she shared with family and friends at their vacation home on Beaver Island, MI for 46 years.
At her request, Sheila has been cremated. The family will host a barbecue this spring in celebration of her life.
