OSBORN, Shirley Louise February 9, 1918 – June 9, 2008 Born and raised in southern California, Shirley became a Registered Nurse, and enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps following Pearl Harbor. Preparing for overseas duty at Fort Lewis, she met a Michigan man, Lt. Ralph Osborn. Both were sent to England, where Shirley served in Wales as a first Lieutenant and Ralph soldiered through D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. Returning home, Shirley and Ralph married in Pasadena, CA and then settled in Dearborn. Four children soon became the focus of Shirley's life. A devoted wife and mother, she was also an active churchwoman and engaged citizen. She volunteered with the PTA, the League of Women Voters, and the Dearborn Historical Museum. As a longtime member of Dearborn Woods Presbyterian Church she was a dedicated teacher and energetic participant in every aspect of the life of the congregation. For many years, Shirley was the registrar of the Col. Joshua Howard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. When she moved to Oakwood Commons, she continued active volunteer work and served on the Residents Advisory board. A loyal friend and caring neighbor, Shirley's whole life was marked by a deep respect for the value and dignity of every person. She will be deeply missed.
