Obituary

Susan L. Nagy passed away on Feb. 28, 2022 at home. Loving sister of Ella. Niece of Maria Arvai. Dear cousin of Margaret (Roger) DeShetler, John (Jan) Arvai, Ernest (Maryann) Arvai, and Charles (Colleen) Arvai. Susan was predeceased by her grandparents, John Sr. and Elizabeth, her mother, Ella Elizabeth Arvai-Nagy, and her aunt and uncles, John Jr. and Elizabeth Arvai and Ernest Arvai, and her cousin, Louis Arvai.

Susan devoted her life to being a teacher. She attended Wayne State University and Monteith College and was a member of the Psi Delta Kappa sorority. Then, she taught social studies and economics at Franklin High School in Livonia, Fordson High School as well as Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn where she held high standards of accomplishment for both herself and her students. She always sought to incorporate new ideas in order to expand that knowledge into the curriculum for her students. She was awarded a Fulbright scholarship and had the opportunity to travel and study in India and Japan.  After 37 years of devoted service, Susan retired from teaching. While teaching, she attended law school and earned her law degree, passing the new-issued BAR exam on the first try.

Susan enjoyed travelling and was able to travel to many countries including Aruba, Bermuda, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Italy, Denmark, Spain, Morocco, and Hungary. While in Hungary, she won an award for best Czardas and she took the opportunity to meet members of her extended family who still resided there.

Susan loved rock n' roll and music in general and enjoyed attending concerts with her sister, Ella, and friends. Among many artists she has seen, she was able to see Luciano Pavarotti, Tina Turner, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Seger live. She was elegantly graceful in her style and manners, appreciated a level of decorum, and was considered by her peers to be fashionable and a great shopper. She was looked up to for exemplifying the styles of the day.

Susan loved her pets. Her first experience was with two seal-point Siamese cats, Missy and Sissy, who both lived to be 24 years old. Her first dog was a Bouvier named Amie. Amie was an AKC champion show dog who beat 19 of her leading competitors at one show. Susan bred Amie with an American-European champion named Levi to produce a litter of six puppies, four of which went on to be AKC champions. She leaves behind her Bouvier, Teddy, who will miss her dearly.

Susan was a lifelong member of the American Hungarian Reform Church, sang in their choir, and served as a Sunday School teacher.
