Suzanne Johns

Suzanne Johns Genthe Van Ranst died peacefully Wednesday, August 1, 2018. Born October 25, 1925, she spent her childhood in Wyandotte with her parents, George and Dixie Genthe, brother Richard (Virginia) and sister, Lynda (the late James Champion).
Suzanne attended Liggett School and University of Michigan where she was a member of the Delta, Delta, Delta sorority. She cherished the life-long friendships made at these schools. For many years, she and her husband enjoyed tailgating at U of M games with these dear friends.
On September 9, 1949, Suzanne married Robert Van Ranst. In Dearborn, they raised Kristin (Arthur Ayers) and Lisa (Peter Berridge, Jr.). As a family, they enjoyed snow sports, swimming, boating on the Detroit River, and traveling around the country. Robert died December 17, 1996.
She was a member of Dearborn Congregational Church, Garden Club of Dearborn, Fairlane Athletic Club, Dearborn Symphony, several bridge and golf groups, Detroit Institute of Arts, was a substitute teacher for 25 years, and volunteered in other community organizations. Besides her siblings and daughters, Suzanne is survived by sister-in-law, Judith Van Ranst Willcox, seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special friend, Garth Dewey.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2 pm at Henry Ford Village Chapel, 15101 Ford Road, Dearborn. Following the service, a reception will be held at Henry Ford Village, 15101 Ford Road, Dearborn from 3-5 pm in the Edison Room. Private burial will be in Ft. Custer where she will join her husband, Robert.

The family would like to thank the staff at Henry Ford Village, her caregivers from Bridgeway, doctors, and ICU staff at Henry Ford Hospital of Detroit for their kindness and loving care. You helped her maintain the quality and dignity of life that she so hoped to continue.
