Teddy was proud of her Catholic faith and her Polish heritage. Her potato salad and pierogi recipes are a treasured heritage to her family.
Teddy's love of reading and going to the library instilled lifelong learning in her children.
Teddy was a member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Dearborn Heights for 60+ years.
Teddy met her husband of 64 years, Cass, when he worked for the railroad and she worked for the Pullman Company.
Teddy and Cass loved the adventure of driving across the USA. They visited 45 states during their travels together. They especially enjoyed living in Tucson, Arizona in their retirement years, where they hiked in the canyons and attended Polish club events. Teddy was a T-shirt painting artist. In the 1990s, everyone in the family wore a shirt fashioned by her.
Quiet, humble service to family members, loved ones, and friends was the hallmark of her time among us. Showing up, helping out, and being present to others was how Teddy lived.
When Cass suffered a major stroke and partial paralysis in 2005, Teddy provided 12 years of dedicated care and loving service to her husband before his passing.
For the past 3 years, Teddy has been a resident of Henry Ford Village, enjoying her weekly pinochle games, playing Words with Friends and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Teddy died on April 2, 2020 from complications of the COVID-19 virus.
Now Teddy knows the fullness of God's mercy and goodness.
May the Lord Jesus Christ welcome Teddy into His loving arms and may our Blessed Mother bring consolation and healing to her family and friends.
A private visitation is planned and private interment will take place at St. Hedwig Cemetery. The Kochan family is planning on having a memorial mass in the future at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. Please revisit our website for future service information.
