Thomas Carl
Kalandek Iii
July 12, 1961 – November 2, 2025
Thomas Carl Kalandek III passed away on November 2, 2025 at the age of 64.
Son of Thomas Carl Kalandek Jr. and Shirley (nee Eldred), Tom (or Uncle Tommy as he was known to his nieces and nephew) was a little over 12 pounds at birth. His mother used to say that Tom was born with traveling sand in his shoes. She used to lock him in the back yard, but he would climb the fence at 2 years old and the milk man and police would bring him home. His mother finally resorted to putting him in a harness and connecting him to a dog run cable to keep him from escaping. A neighbor called the police, and when they came to investigate this alleged child abuse, his mother reminded the officers that they brought him home just last week. That was the end of that.
Tom once had police from Dearborn, Dearborn Heights and Taylor come to his house because he had been drag racing through all three cities. He decided to join the military instead of facing the music. He proudly served in the Navy and got to visit Cuba, England, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Greece, Israel and Morocco.
While living in Arizona, Tom installed and repaired phone systems by day and repo'd vehicles by night.
When Tom came back to Michigan, he worked as a handyman. He was an electrician, did plumbing, drywall, painting, HVAC, floor installation, tile installation... you name it. All of our houses had lots of work done by Tom and he was always willing to help.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Brother of Leroy (Jana) Kalandek, Jeff (Brenda) Bowles, Cindy (the late Bruce) Kalandek, Frank Kalandek and Christie (Jamie) Holbrook. Uncle of Angela Marie Monhan, Caroline Shirley Kalandek, Marcella Ann McLeaish, Juliana Marie Covarrubias, Kelsey (Luke) Korte, CJ Kalandek, Corie Kalandek, Tina (Chaz) Kalandek, and Samantha (James) Durham and great uncle to many great-nieces and nephews.
