Wallace Bird Smith

December 2, 1923 – August 7, 2018

Wally lived in Dearborn his entire life except for college at Michigan State University and military service in World War II.

Wally dedicated his entire career to education in Dearborn.  He taught at Bryant and Edsel Ford before moving to Henry Ford Community College where he was Dean of Students for twenty years.

Wally was active in Dearborn Rotary and the Dearborn Historical Commission.

Wally is survived by his wife of seventy years, Jean.  He is also survived by sons Craig (Beth), Brian, daughter Barb (Stephen), and their families.  Wally and Jean have eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.  The extended family includes nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a private service.

Wally believed strongly in community colleges.  Donations may be made to the Henry Ford Community College Scholarship Fund.
