Walter A. Roney, Dearborn, born January 1, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan. Passed away February, 9, 2018 at age 99. Business Executive, Graduate of the University of Detroit. Founder of the Fairlane Club Dearborn, Michigan. Served on President Eisenhower's Small Business Advisory Panel. Trucking executive and property developer. Member of World's Presidents Organization. Served as Chairman of the Young Presidents Organization 1955-56; the Founder and first President of the Michigan 49ers (Alumni of Young Presidents Organization). He was Captain of U. of D. Fencing Team: winner of numerous sailing and District Champion of Lightning Sailing Class in early 1950 and a member of Crescent Sail Yacht Club. He was an avid skier and tennis player, playing twice a week up till the end and winner of many tennis trophies. He was a past member of the D.A.C., Dearborn Country Club, Dearborn and Dearborn Heights Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as well as a member of various social and civic organizations. He and his wife, Mary Joan, travelled extensively throughout the world and also loved traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada in their customized motor Home. He married Mary Joan Ehlen, October 20, 1945 and they had nine children: Sharon Garvin, Kathleen (Mark) Wilk, Marjorie (Joseph) Morabito, Carol, Marie (James) Rueber, Daniel, Ellen Mary, Kenneth (deceased) and William(Cecily) Roney. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, February 22, 4-9 pm and Friday February 23, 2-9 pm with a 6 pm scripture service at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, Dearborn Chapel. A funeral mass will be Saturday February 24, 10 am at St. Anselm Church. Instate 9:30 am. Please consider donations to the American Diabetes Association.
