Wanda Ann
Petoskey
September 4, 1912 – December 17, 2018
Wanda A. Petoskey, of Dearborn, passed away December 17, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Born September 4, 1912 to Joseph and Mary Leszczak in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. She came to the United States at 6 months old and passed through Ellis Island where her name is etched on the wall to this day. Wanda joins her beloved husband of 49 years, Edward, in eternal rest. Proud mother of Delbert (Bernie) Petoskey, Melvin J. "Jim" (Barbara) Petoskey, and Karen Quenneville. Caring grandmother of Mark (Lisa) David (Kathy), Scott (Melissa), Todd (Elizabeth), Kristin (Rick), Jill (Chris). Dear great-grandmother of 11 and great-great-grandmother of 1. Cherished sister of Dr. Raymond Lezak and the late Cecilia Champagne. Treasured by many additional nieces, nephews, friends and family members.
Wanda was strong in her religion and just as devout in taking care of her family. She was active in her community by being a part of the Daughters of Isabella and the Polish Women's Alliance which honored her heritage. Wanda also enjoyed being active physically. She walked everywhere her entire life, even into her late years, and was known for breaking it down with some groovy dance moves to some of her favorite music. She also had a penchant for butterflies, something she always made a point to wear on her person. Just as a butterfly, Wanda was a bright and colorful woman with a sparkling personality. Those with the pleasure of knowing her will miss her greatly.
A memorial gathering in her honor will take place Friday, December 28 from 1-3PM with a memorial service at 3PM located at the Dearborn Chapel of Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorials may be made out to The Medical Team Hospice, The American Cancer Society, and The Alzheimer's Association.
