Wayne Stuart Doran, born May 1934, age 87, of Dearborn, MI passed away on February 10, 2022
Wayne Doran was born and raised in Phoenix, AZ where he graduated from Phoenix Union High School and earned a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University. He was vice president of Del Webb corporation from 1963-69. In 1969, Mr. Henry Ford II personally called and hand-picked Mr. Doran as founding Chairman of Ford Motor Land Development Corp. He was then promoted to vice president of Ford Motor Company, retiring in January 2001. Mr. Doran's most notable developments for Ford, were the 2,300-acre Fairlane Community in Dearborn, MI, and the Detroit Renaissance Center in Detroit before moving on to the Irvine Ranch development in Southern California, once considered the most valuable piece of real estate in the United States. In 1987, Mr. Doran developed The TPC of Michigan, which went on to host the Ford Players Senior Tournament of Champions. Mr. Doran served on the board of directors of Glimcher Realty Trust, Henry Ford Hospital, and the Salvation Army. He was a trustee of the Urban Land Institute, which honored him in 2006 with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, he served on the boards of the ASU Foundation, National Realty Committee, Barrow Neurological Institute, ASU Research Park, and the PGA Tour. Mr. Doran received the Distinguished Leader Award from the University of Michigan in 1998; and in 2007, he received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Congressional Medal of Honor Society. ASU inducted him into the Business School Hall of Fame in 1977 and named him an Outstanding Alumnus in 1978. In 1997, Mr. Doran created The Doran Community Scholars Program which provided scholarships to over 200 students at ASU. Mr. Doran was a varsity baseball star at ASU and a lifelong golfer. He was a Life Member of the Dearborn Country Club, a Founding Member of The TPC of Michigan and a long-time member of the Paradise Valley Country Club.
Mr. Doran is survived by his wife, Maureen, his three children, Roselle Brown, Susan Reisner (Joel), Randy Doran (Lisa) and three grandchildren. Mr. Doran is proceeded in death by his daughter Rhonda Doran and his grandson Wayne A. Doran.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of the Divine Child, located at 1055 N. Silvery Lane, Dearborn, MI. 48128. Viewing will be on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 at the Howe Peterson Funeral home located at 22546 Michigan Ave., Dearborn, MI 48124
