Obituary

William Archibald Cairns was born in Barr Slope, a small coal mining town in Pennsylvania on January 5, 1931, to James and Violet Cairns.  He had a sister, Bessie, and a brother, Pete (both deceased).  His parents moved to another small town close by named Commodore where Bill grew up, attended school, and graduated high school.  This is where he met Jenny (Genevieve Lewis).

Bill always loved sports, especially football.  He tried out for the football team and was accepted.  He became a really good player, winning the spot as the number one half-back.

After graduation from high school Bill enlisted in the Navy and served four years aboard ship as a radio operator.  During this time, he and Jenny got married on December 27, 1952.  After he served his time, he returned to civilian life and settled in Detroit, Michigan where he sought employment.  He and Jenny lived in an apartment on Epworth Street until they could buy a house.  They moved to Taylor where they raised their three children and still reside at the same address.

Bill is survived by his wife (Jenny), daughter Brenda (Doug Comb), son Tom (Andrea), daughter Amy DeMattio (Bryan Gillespie), 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and many friends who loved him dearly.
