William John Gansen, "Uncle Bill," passed away peacefully in the company of loved ones on April 4, 2024 in Milford, Michigan, at the age of 94.
Bill was born in Dearborn, Michigan to Mary and Raymond Gansen, February 6, 1930.
He graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School and then served in the United States Army as a medic.
He had an undergraduate degree from Michigan State and a Master Degree from the University of Michigan and Purdue. He taught Economics, Science and History at Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone until his retirement. He was an active member of the faculty volunteering to assist in publishing the school paper, lead students in tours of the jungle and helped direct student plays.
He loved photography, astronomy, scuba diving, butterfly collecting, mineral collecting, archeological digs, and weather reporting. A great point of pride for him was that he had camped in every state of the union.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Raymond Gansen and by his siblings, Veronica Zonca (Steven Zonca), John Gansen,(Virginia Gansen), Doris Nasmeh-Bliven (Sam Nasmeh) and his nephews William Gansen (Billy) and Maurice Nasmeh.
He is survived by his brother-in-law, David Bliven, and many nieces and nephews: Pamela Zonca (Tim Prost), Steven Zonca, Jr. (Victoria Zonca), David Zonca, Lisa Cieri (Ron Cieri), Christopher Zonca (Susan Zonca), Catherine Labaere (Richard Labaere), Ellen Bakst (Micki Bakst), Richard Gansen, Raymond Nasmeh (Jinaye Nasmeh), Monique Guerra (Paul Guerra).
Funeral mass will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 15th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 22430 Michigan Ave, Dearborn, MI 48124. Gathering at church from 10:30 a.m. Visitation Sunday, April 14th from 1:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Dearborn Chapel of the Howe-Peterson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 22546 Michigan Ave. Dearborn, 48124. Scripture service Sunday 4:00 p.m.. Interment Holy Sepulchre. A luncheon will follow immediately after Mass at the church social hall.
