Youngest offspring of Melvin and Winnie (VanSteenis) McBain, deceased. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Marilyn Patrica (Baker) McBain. Beloved father of Deborah( Kim Bruley), Keith( Beth), Gary( Kay ), Craig (Carla), Leigh(Kelly). Inspiring and adored grandfather to Katherine Bruley( Chris Barber), Ryan, Ian ( Emily), Michael ( Nikki), Marissa( Tony Lacey), Erin, Megan, Lauren, Marilyn J. and Sarah. Great grandfather of Ellie and Maddie Barber, Theodore and Hudson McBain. Uncle to numerous nieces and nephews; the offspring of his predceased brothers: Millard(Eleanore) Ross( Erdine) John (Jeanne) and sisters Doris (Wayne Borrows) , and Betty(Don Collier).
Bill was an employee of Ford Motor company for 30 years, starting shortly after his graduation from Ann Arbor High School. Starting as a farm hand on Henry Ford Farms he worked into the position of Product Development Senior Engineer. During his career he was consulted nationwide, as auto emission standards were developed, establishing himself as an expert. After his retirement from Ford Motor Co. he was contracted independently by Ford for his expertise. His consulting work took him and his intrepid and ever loving spouse, Marilyn to live in Australia, Germany and Taiwan. These travels took them visiting around the world and led to the production of a custom built 35 ft. sailing yacht built in New Zealand. They named the yacht Corroboree, an aboriginal term for "celebration of life". The yacht was shipped back to the states to sail the Great Lakes for nearly 30 years, creating irreplaceable memories and adventurous inspiration for family and friends. Although family was always foremost in his open mind he expressed a lifelong love for the freedom of open road and open seas. We take comfort in the image of our loved one's ultimate journey of freedom. He sails free within our hearts. A memorial service and celebration luncheon will be planned when social distancing restrictions are lifted.
The family has asked for there to be no flowers for their private service.
